In their own words: See how 1,000 Americans describe Trump
in a national, representative sample of voters & nonvoters alike
Surveys inevitably flatten complex opinions into a handful of pre-selected options. “Do you have a favorable or unfavorable view of Donald Trump? Is that somewhat or strongly (un)favorable?”
To get a better sense of Americans really feel about the next president, we asked 1,063 people two simple questions. The survey was delivered online, so respondents could type whatever they wanted.
What do you like about Donald Trump?
What do you dislike about Donald Trump?
In total a majority—51% of respondents—listed at least one thing they liked and disliked about Trump. Listing things they dislike about Trump but including nothing positive were 35%. Fewer adults, 12%, listed positive things about Trump but nothing negative.
We made a web application where you can view randomly selected sets of interviews among different groups of respondents at the click of a button.
I encourage you to read a few sets of the responses. I won’t attempt to summarize them here, as I think it’s best to read them without any prejudgment.
